Big privacy buzz around both Google’s Buzz and Facebook

 

 

Google has received a stinging attack from leading privacy regulators when it launched its new service called “Buzz” that takes private data from its Googlemail service and turns it into publicly available data. Buzz is Google’s attempt

to rival Facebook, the social networking phenomenon. Data protection and privacy regulators from 10 countries, including the UK, France, Germany and Canada have written a strongly worded letter criticising Google’s practices.

According to the latest news, Google has said that it will begin to roll out a privacy reset for its controversial social network Buzz and ask all its users to confirm or change their privacy settings.

In the meantime, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote a letter to users, published in the Washington Post, in which he promises a simpler way to user to add privacy controls and more power to turn off all third-party services. 
According to a recent survey of 1,588 people by Sophos, 16% of those polled have already stopped using Facebook due to inadequate control over their data.  Despite the security concerns, Facebook keeps growing and is expected to pass the 500 million users mark next month.
